Title IX Resources

MCCC leaders are actively assessing the new Title IX regulations, most of which are unchanged, to gauge their potential impact on our existing policies and procedures. However, a lawsuit filed in the District of Kansas is seeking declaratory relief of the law, claiming the final regulations exceed the U.S. Department of Education's authority. The plaintiffs have amended their suit to include Monroe County Community College, thereby inhibiting full implementation of the new Title IX regulations. MCCC will continue to assess current policies and procedures and work with the MCCC community to ensure our commitment to transparency and inclusivity.

What is Title IX?

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights enforces, among other statutes, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. Title IX states that:

"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."

Unlawful discriminatory practices under Title IX include sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, stalking, dating violence, domestic violence and retaliation.

How to File a Complaint

If you believe you have been sexually harassed or discriminated against, you should report that behavior as soon as possible so that the college may conduct a thorough investigation.
